New International Project Explores Climate Adaptation Across Biological Scales

The Ankh Climate Change Research Center has announced the start of the international research initiative ADAPT-X, bringing together experts in biology, environmental science and computational modeling from eight research institutions.

The project aims to understand how adaptation processes emerge across different levels of biological organization, ranging from genetic regulation within individual organisms to ecosystem-wide responses under changing climate conditions.

Researchers will combine genomic analyses, long-term ecological monitoring and predictive simulations to identify common principles governing biological resilience. Particular attention will be given to species that inhabit rapidly changing environments such as wetlands, alpine regions and coastal ecosystems.

By integrating experimental and computational approaches, the consortium hopes to improve predictions of biodiversity responses under future climate scenarios while supporting evidence-based conservation strategies.

The initiative also includes an extensive open-data program that will make environmental measurements, genomic datasets and analytical workflows publicly available throughout the project.

The first field campaigns are scheduled to begin later this year across multiple European research sites.
